Caribbean Winter Baseball Championship Tournament Rebirth in 2019

For 22 years since 1995, Mens Senior Baseball has hosted an international tournament in Puerto Rico. Then last year, Hurricane Maria walloped the Caribbean island with severe destruction, including not only infrastructure and housing, but even making many baseball facilities unusable.  It has taken many months to restore even basic services to the many cities affected, but the people there are strong and resilient, and because of their great passion for the game of baseball, it is once again being played in many of the beautiful stadiums there.  AIU has been the official supplier of umpires for this annual event, and now is making plans for a Rebirth of this exciting tournament.  Game dates have been set for January 31 through February 3, with championship day once again being held on Super Bowl Sunday.  Recent tournaments have offered visiting umpires to complete the championship games and head to one of the many sports bars and casinos to witness the pinnacle event of Pro Football.  With tourism providing much of the lifeblood of the Puerto Rican economy, great deals are now available at hotels and  condos with beachfront access, and the cost of flights and rental cars is very affordable.  Player interest in attending this next chapter in the historic tournament is at an all time high, and we expect to have a great turnout this winter. While those in the States experience typical mid-winter weather, the CWBC affords low 80’s temperatures and the always present Caribbean breezes.  Those interested in playing in this tournament should contact tournament director Rich Rosenbaum at (516) 319-1465.  Umpires who would like to participate should contact assistant tournament director Ken Vanderpoel  at (678) 640-7956.  See your in San Juan !!!
